Margaret Mentink-Kane, Ph.D. has managed the Schistosomiasis Resource Center (SRC) since January 2015. After receiving a B.S. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, she completed her Ph.D. in Immunology and Microbiology at Temple University, Philadelphia. Following a post-doctoral fellowship with Thomas Wynn, Ph.D. at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, Dr. Mentink-Kane served as Staff Scientist examining murine models of schistosomiasis and immunoregulation of fibrosis by cytokines and cytokine receptors.
The Schistosomiasis Resource Center (SRC) of the Biomedical Research Institute (BRI) supplies schistosomes and schistosome-related research reagents to laboratories in the U.S. and abroad. The SRC offers parasites, vectors (snails) and molecular products, free of charge, for all three major schistosome species affecting humankind. The SRC also conducts the Schistosomiasis Life Cycle Training Course, offered twice per year to students, junior scientists, life science technicians and Principal Investigators.
