POSITION TITLE: INVESTIGATOR

The Biomedical Research Institute (BRI) is an independent nonprofit organization which houses the NIH-NIAID Schistosomiasis Resource Center and the BRI Biorepository.  In the 70 years since its founding, BRI has made seminal contributions to the laboratory maintenance of Schistosoma spp. life cycles; S. mansoni schistosomula ultrastructure and cryopreservation techniques. BRI has supported schistosomiasis research through the distribution of schistosomiasis reagents and molecular products to investigators worldwide.

BRI invites applications for a full-time Investigator position in the area of infectious diseases.  Applicants must have a PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree, and a research program with currently active federal funding.  Successful candidates have demonstrated significant research accomplishment and will be able to grow and sustain an independent research program. Areas of interest include parasitology, virology and bacteriology. Applicants whose research is dedicated to investigating neglected tropical diseases are especially encouraged to apply.

BRI is committed to supporting scientific research that will benefit communities impacted the greatest by infectious diseases. The current recruitment initiative aims to enhance our contribution to neglected tropical diseases research and builds on BRI’s local collaborations with George Washington University, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the National Institutes of Health and industry partners.

POSITION TITLE: LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
Department: Biorepository

The Biomedical Research Institute (BRI) in Rockville, MD is a not-for-profit research institute, with a major emphasis on schistosomiasis reagents distribution and ultra-low temperature specimen storage. BRI stores more than six million biospecimens in support of many government and private contracts. We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to work in our Biorepository department.

POSITION SUMMARY

Team-oriented technical assistance and administrative duties in support of receiving and shipping biospecimens for various clinical studies under U.S. government contracts, hospitals and/or universities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive, record, inspect and inventory biological samples for BRI’s cold storage facility
  • Select, pack and prepare shipments of biological samples to study sites
  • Perform all duties per approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Complete all documentation correctly and legibly
  • Conduct all duties in accordance with BRI safety policies
  • Participate in customer and regulatory audits
  • Enter and update data in inventory control systems
  • Must be able to receive passing scores on necessary regulatory training


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

May cross train with other groups as required by workloads

MINIMUM / PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: BS in Science preferred
  • Experience: 0-2 years in laboratory environment, preferable a GLP, GMP or regulated facility
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Skilled in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
