Schistosomiasis Molecular Training Course

December 6 - December 8

Schistosomiasis Molecular Training Course
The next course is scheduled for December 6-8, 2017
“Gene Editing of Adult Schistosomes by CRISPR/cas”
The Schistosomiasis Resource Center Molecular Training Course, “Gene Editing of Adult Schistosomes by CRISPR/Cas” will be held December 6-8, 2017 at BRI. Attendees will receive hands-on training involving CRISPR/Cas-based knock down of target gene expression in adult worms in vitro. Lectures on primer design and data analysis will be given by SRC staff, with additional lectures on recent research advances from visiting scientists (to be announced). Specific techniques for the hands-on training will include:

  • Adult schistosome culture
  • Total RNA and DNA isolations
  • cDNA preparation and quantitative PCR
  • Genomic cleavage assays and gel electrophoresis

This is a great learning opportunity for researchers of all levels who want to apply molecular techniques to their studies of schistosomes and snails. Anyone interested in attending the Molecular Training Course can contact  Margaret Mentink-Kane (mmentinkkane@afbr-bri.com). There is no fee associated with the course, but attendees are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and meals.
